I recently hung my thesis show and the first comment I got in my guest book was “Jo Baer did it first and she did it better!” So I sought her out to see if this was true and to see if I had a kindred spirit I wasn’t aware of. I guess it isn’t though — I think that person (Angela A. if it matters) didn’t even read my artist statement — or really look at my (or Jo Baer’s) paintings for that matter — because, beyond surface similarities, our art is really nothing alike.

And anyway, Kazimir Malevich did it first and better than both Jo and I.

I do like Ms. Baer’s work though and I am glad that I was directed to her site for whatever reason.

OK, so today I was practically unable to function because I thought one of the panels I made for my thesis show was severely warped. Seriously.

I took all opportunities presented to me today to talk with other painters about how one might go about fixing the problem. I did get a lot of great advice though … I guess the best advice ended up being to check the actual wall the panel was hanging on.

“Are you sure the wall the panel is hanging on isn’t what’s warped?”

Oddly enough, it was the wall. Great. More grey hairs for nothing.

Sigh.
